Butler's Callbox

Overview

This house had a hundred-year-old callbox used to notify the servants when service was needed in a particular room. On the bottom was a mechanical clear button that would clear the alerted room needles when service was completed. We decided to modernize it with current technology to make it useful to the family on a daily basis while maintaining its unique appearance.

Equipment

To make this work, we used RTI control products, a 24 output relay, a 24 output 5-volt power supply and an iPad Mini.

Features

We re-engineered the needles to signal to the family when a room in the house is using any audio and/or video technology. We also integrated the mechanical clear button on the bottom of the box to shut down the entire house when pressed. All of this was built into a custom cabinet that also houses an iPad Mini for complete control of the entire house.
