Overview

This unique home theater and study hybrid project posed an exciting challenge as it required blending two distinct functions—an immersive home theater experience and a functional study—into one space, all while addressing the room’s specific architectural and environmental challenges. Set atop a cliff overlooking Lake Superior, the room features expansive views and natural light, requiring a thoughtful design to control light without compromising the stunning vista. Our dedicated team overcame the obstacles of room design, location, and extreme ambient light to bring the client’s vision to life, creating a space that seamlessly combines luxury, function, and scenic beauty.

Equipment

High-Performance Projector & Screen: A premium projector and screen setup were chosen to deliver vivid visuals, ensuring the theater experience is cinematic despite the room’s large windows and high ambient light levels. Acoustic Treatments: Strategic acoustical stretch fabric was applied to the ceiling and rear walls to absorb sound and enhance audio quality, ensuring an immersive sound experience in both the theater and study sections. Advanced Lighting Control System: The room features an integrated lighting system that adapts to both movie nights and daylight hours, allowing the client to easily control light levels for optimal viewing without compromising the view. Custom Built-In Bookcases: Designed to act as both functional elements and acoustic solutions, custom bookcases help diffuse sound and subtly define the separation between the study and theater areas without obstructing the breathtaking views. Motorized Window Treatments: To block out the ambient light for movie watching while still maintaining the lake view when desired, automated window treatments were installed to provide effortless control of the room’s light levels.

Custom Acoustics & Lighting: The acoustical treatments and lighting system are carefully designed to maintain a perfect balance between sound quality and aesthetic appeal, ensuring the room performs flawlessly for both study and entertainment needs. Seamless Integration: The home theater and study areas are designed to flow together naturally, with bespoke furnishings and materials that contribute to a sophisticated and harmonious space.
